SUMMARY:Miss Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Thief - Spoleto Festival USA (role and festival debut)
DESCRIPTION:Music by Gian Carlo Menotti\nLibretto by Gian Carlo Menotti\nDirector\, Daisy Evans\nConductor\, Timothy Myers\nSpoleto Festival USA Orchestra \nStep into a world of gossip and intrigue in The Old Maid and the Thief by Gian Carlo Menotti\, the visionary founder of Spoleto Festival USA. Produced by Spoleto\, this comedic one-act — composed in 1939 as a radio opera and never before performed at the Festival — is reimagined as a live radio broadcast—complete with onstage Foley sound effects\, object manipulation\, and the thrill of storytelling in real time. Set in the golden age of radio\, the singers become both performers and sound artists\, crafting the opera’s world before our eyes and ears. Campy\, inventive\, and delightfully mischievous\, this brand-new staging celebrates Menotti’s wit and theatrical flair in a vibrant homecoming to the Spoleto stage. \nCreative Team\nDaisy Evans\, Director\nWalt Spangler\, Scenic and Costume Designer\nMatt Forbes\, Movement Designer\nJacob Wiltshire\, Lighting Designer \n\n\n\n\nCast \n\n\nMISS TODD: Katharine Goeldner\nLAETITIA: Rachel Blaustein\nMISS PINKERTON: Chrystal E. SUMMARY:Nefertiti in AKHNATEN - Het Concertgebouw (house debut)
DESCRIPTION:Along with Einstein on the Beach and Satyagraha \, the opera Akhnaten (1983) forms a triptych about science\, politics\, and religion. Composer Philip Glass\, often in collaboration with theater maker Robert Wilson\, thus created a sweeping musico-dramatic panorama of current affairs in a unique new formal language. In Akhnaten \, after his father’s death\, the young pharaoh Akhenaten comes to power\, with his wife Nefertiti—the one depicted in the beautiful bust in Berlin. After his coronation\, he abolishes all the old gods to introduce a new religion. This dismays the priests\, who overthrow him.
